Durian-Pudding-3

Durian is absolutely the most interesting fruit I have ever seen, had, and tasted. It tastes like sweet, onion custard. Yes, I said onion custard. I personally get sick if I eat onions, but durian is a whole different story. Especially when it comes in the form of durian pudding.

This fruit presents such a mix of flavors, it’s hard to describe unless you actually try it for yourself. The scent of ripe durian is so strong that it is actually forbidden to bring them on public transportation in places like Singapore. They call durian “the king of fruits” which makes sense, as the spikes on the fruit resemble the points of a crown.

If this is your first time trying durian, it might be an odd flavor for you, but try to go in with an open mind. If you already love durian, this recipe for durian pudding will make you want even more of it. The mix of flavors in durian pudding are somewhat like a lemon pudding with a twist. I love adding durian to any creamy recipe (see durian guacamole on Producers Stories), because it makes just about any recipe even creamier and more interesting.

Like avocado, the fats in the durian are healthy fats. They are good for the brain and keep you satiated longer. There are so many nutrients in durian, including 80% of your recommended daily dose of vitamin C. The lemon in this recipe also has high vitamin C content and immune support, so you will be eating this dessert and boosting your health at the same time. As well as vitamin C and healthy fats, durian and bananas both have a lot of potassium, which helps with muscle recovery, nerve health, and fluid balance.

  1. First time trying and durian is a delight. I’m not even offended by the scent as it has grown on me I guess. The first time opening it I have to admit it was potent however understanding the nutrients involved in such a delicacy, How could one be offended. Cannot wait to learn of more recipes using durian.
