Raw Cane Sugar and Coffee Body Scrub
Buff Your Dry Skin into Softness with This DIY Body Scrub
The team behind Producers Stories is crazy about food—especially food with a story to tell. We’re passionate about bringing farm-to-table flavors into your home with recipes, product spotlights, and blogs highlighting our farmers’ voices.
For this DIY skincare recipe, we plucked inspiration out of a producer featured in our platform and their star product: Trapiche Lucerna and their organic panela (raw sugarcane).
The main two ingredients in this recipe are panela (raw cane sugar) and coffee. The topical use of panela is great for the skin. Sugarcane contains alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) like glycolic acid—a natural exfoliant that increases cell turnover that, with the help of antioxidants, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds, gently helps to brighten and even out the skin.
The caffeine in coffee stimulates blood circulation, has calming and effects on the skin, and contains niacin (vitamin B3) that promotes skin elasticity and mitigates sun damage, as well as anti-inflammatory and antibacterial chlorogenic acid (CGA).
We’ll also use a medium to bind the mixed grounds into a homogeneous product. This can be an oil like coconut, olive, jojoba, or almond, which will also nourish and moisturize the skin.
You can also make additives like honey, vanilla, or cinnamon to your liking. A natural, quick, and easy recipe that you can make as often as you like!
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp of ground organic panela
- 2 tbsp of ground coffee
- 2 tbsp of a carrier oil of your choice (coconut, olive, jojoba, sweet almond…)
Optional (to taste)

- A dash of cinnamon
Preparation:
- Pour the ground panela and coffee into a bowl.
- Add your carrier oil and optional additive of choice and mix until ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.
