Zero Budget Natural Farming

Newsletter: Zero Budget Natural Farming

Posted November 26, 2019

Dear Producers Market Community,

We are pleased to tell you about a new partnership underway. Producers Market has partnered with the ambitious farmer-driven Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) movement in Andhra Pradesh, India. This movement has grown to over 530,000 farmers in under five years, with plans to reach six million small farmers by 2023.

The ZBNF movement has captured the hearts and hopes of many around India—and the world. It is a pioneering model for scaled, community-driven agriculture that empowers small farmers economically, socially, and ecologically.

Through the leadership of women-led self help groups (SHGs), the localization of natural input production and distribution, and the removal of chemicals from communities, people are generating greater returns on their farming efforts, and living healthier lives.

RySS is the nonprofit organization established by the government of Andhra Pradesh to facilitate and advise the ZBNF community on training, infrastructure, marketing, and digitization solutions.

Producers Market and RySS share a commitment to establishing:

  • Innovation and proven models that allow farmers to gain equity in their value chains
  • Channels to connect outputs more efficiently with buyer value chains, and
  • Branding that engages end consumers.

In the next phase of evolution for the ZBNF movement, we are looking at a master commercialization and development plan for a regenerative model to optimize the impact of billions of dollars in transactions on farmer welfare.

Together, we are developing a unique approach to scaled emerging market value chains meant for lasting impact and wealth generation for small farmer communities—in India, and around the world.

In this project, Producers Market is working with RySS to design and implement systems to digitize contracts, transactions, and traceability in order to build unique data sets and provide greater farmer access to information, resources, and upstream markets.

Producers Market is opening our first Asia office in Hyderabad, India to focus on project implementation and long-term sustainable growth.

Our team is honored to be a partner to RySS in supporting the ZBNF movement and the small farmers that are changing the way we produce food and fiber.

As always, thank you for your support and trust in our vision.

In gratitude,
